Infant Feeding Therapy

Our Infant Feeding Program supports babies and their families through the earliest stages of feeding and development.

What is Infant Feeding Therapy?

Infant Feeding Therapy supports infants facing challenges with eating, swallowing, or transitioning to new feeding stages. Our licensed pediatric speech-language pathologists use specialized techniques to help each baby feed safely, effectively, and comfortably—whether nursing, bottle-feeding, or starting solids.

Program Goals

  • Promote safe and effective feeding and swallowing skills
  • Support successful breastfeeding and bottle-feeding
  • Foster positive early feeding experiences and parent–infant bonding
  • Identify and treat feeding and swallowing difficulties early to prevent long-term challenges

Who We Serve

  • Premature or medically fragile infants
  • Infants with difficulty latching, sucking, or coordinating suck–swallow–breathe patterns
  • Babies with poor weight gain or prolonged feeding times
  • Infants with reflux, coughing, gagging, or choking during feeds
  • Babies transitioning to solids who struggle with textures or oral-motor skills

Our Approach

Our team provides individualized assessment and family-centered therapy using evidence-based methods. Each session includes:

  • Comprehensive Feeding Evaluation: Observation of feeding, assessment of oral-motor skills, and caregiver interview.
  • Collaborative Treatment Plan: Tailored strategies to support feeding goals and family needs.
  • Caregiver Education: Coaching families in positioning, pacing, and responsive feeding techniques.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Coordination with lactation consultants, occupational therapists, pediatricians, and dietitians to ensure holistic care.

Outcomes

Families gain confidence and skills to support their infant’s feeding journey, while babies develop the foundation for healthy eating and early communication skills.
