Cleft lip and palate are a common birth difference. Globally, approximately 1 out of every 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate. Intervention is most successful when a coordinated interdisciplinary team of professionals (SLP, Dentist, Orthodontist, Pediatrician) work together to develop an individualized treatment plan for the client.
Parkwood partners with local professionals to provide this level of individualized care. Parkwood clinicians target speech deviations resulting from cleft lip and/or palate, as well as developmental articulation errors, phonological disorders, feeding problems, and language and learning differences, if also present.
We can be an effective member of a child’s cleft team – before, during and after surgical intervention. We work closely with families to develop goals, collaborate with the child’s care team and closely monitor client progress.
