Articulation Therapy

We offer articulation therapy for children to help improve their communication through enhancing their speech intelligibility.

What is Articulation Disorder?

Articulation disorder also fall under the umbrella of speech sound disorders. Often a child with an articulation disorder makes errors on individual sounds (i.e., trouble producing the “R” sound).

At Parkwood Clinic, our therapy helps improve children’s communication through enhancing their speech intelligibility, with the goal to achieve age-appropriate speech sounds. Parkwood clinicians use a hierarchical approach to target speech sounds to build confidence around speech and mastery of skill set, starting with the sound in isolation and working our way to words, phrases, sentences, and conversation.

This hierarchy helps ensure total adoption of the “new way” of making this sound and helps the child generalize their new skill to other communication environments. Repetition is key to success for articulation therapy; we encourage 100 trials per day to help build muscle memory to the level of habituation.
