Story Champs: A Language-Based Curriculum for Developing Skilled Readers

Skilled reading, regardless of age, requires a harmonious balance of word recognition and language comprehension. Both aspects have subunits that provide the foundation for becoming a proficient reader. Story Champs is a language-based curriculum designed to integrate word recognition and language comprehension, helping individuals develop into skilled readers. While many of our clients may not specifically aim to become skilled readers, there are numerous benefits to using Story Champs. The curriculum helps enhance skills in narrative formulation, auditory comprehension, phonological awareness, vocabulary development, memory, sequencing, and other essential areas that we focus on at Parkwood Clinic.

Who Should Use Story Champs?

Story Champs is suitable for a wide range of individuals and has been normed across various populations. The curriculum primarily targets children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. However, it is also effective for clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, bilingual individuals, or anyone at risk for reading and language disorders.

What Can Story Champs Help With?

Story Champs is designed to improve a variety of skills, including:

  • Narrative Formulation: Helping individuals structure and tell coherent stories.
